Generally speaking, you should go in hard for everything.
But sometimes patience is required.
Want to start exercising after years of sloth-like living? Ease into it, otherwise you’ll injure yourself.
Want to start waking up at 5am instead of 7am? Go in hard. Set the alarm for 5am, wake up.
Whatever it is you’re trying to do, first determine whether going in hard will hurt you.
If so, go in easy.
If not, go hard.
